Young Agoal members - before CR/Navy match

Some members of Agoal's U6 team having fun just before the CR/Navy match

Prior to the Caltex league match between CR&FC and Navy played last Saturday (06/06/2009) at Longdon Place, young Agoal U16 team took on Ananda College at the same venue. The experienced and strongly build Ananda lads emerged victorious.

There were couple of friendly matches between U14, U12, U10 and U6 Agoal members took place after U16 match.

Agoal Media Conference


To mark the fifth successful year in operation, Mr. Dilroy Fernando, the Executive Director of Agoal Rugby Academy convened a media conference yesterday (7th April 2009) to detail the performance of Agoal during the last five years and to outline the future plans which includes organizing an international youth rugby tournament in Sri Lanka.

Many leading media organizations, parents, well-wishers and the members were present at this conference which took place at the CR&FC conference hall.

Agoal does it again!



Agoal U12 emerged the runners-up once again in the 10-a-side junior rugby tournament organized by the Rugby Development Foundation of D. S. Senanayake College last Saturday 14th March 2009 at CR & FC grounds, Colombo.

Along with Agoal Academy, seven rugby playing schools participated in this tournament under 14 and 12 age group categories. Minus many regular team members, the players from Agoal made their academy proud when they confronted high riding St. Peter's College U12 in the finals. To compete with Agoal who are relatively new to local competitions, St. Peter's had to use every bit of their skills and experience had gained last many years as a regular rugby playing school.

Agoal made sure that SPC sweat to survive the allotted time and the extra 7 minutes which ended nil all. After a gruelling tussle finally Agoal went down to St. Peter's in a penalty shoot out, 2-0.

Agoal shines bright in Thailand




The young rugby players of Agoal made their presence felt strongly when they performed exceptionally well in the Bangkok Junior International Rugby Tens played on the 21st and 22nd of February 2009 at Bangkok Patana School Stadium, Thailand.

There were as many as 43 youth teams from different parts of the world competed under the youth category of this colorful and well organized tournament which was sponsored by DHL. Though small in stature the kids from Sri Lanka displayed immense talent and skill that won the hearts of many foreign spectators.

Participating for the first time in a tournament of this nature, U12-A team of Agoal showed its metal against heavy Hong Kong University Sandy Bay team in the cup finals and emerged runners-up after a rousing game. Both U12-B and U10 teams which comprised with many talented players became the bowl runners-up in their respective age categories. The U14 team who experienced a vast physical contrast against their opponent right throughout, managed to win the bowl championship.

While it was a unforgettable experience and a confidence booster for the young rugby players, with this exposure Agoal Rugby Academy too was able to unearth and note down some serious talent among its young members which is a positive sign for future Sri Lankan rugby.

Bangkok Intl Rugby 10s match shedule

The U10, U12 (A & B) and U14 teams of Agoal Rugby Academy are scheduled to leave the island tomorrow (19th Feb) to participate in the Bangkok Lions Mini International Tens Rugby Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand.

The tournament is getting underway on the 21st to 22nd of February.
